"Listen to the children who come to you, and see them,
really see them. Practice the ancient art from a lost tribe.
Be a guardian of their hearts. If only for a moment,
reflect their hearts to them." Yanon Volcani, Ph.D., CSPP
- San Diego, 1996

The two poems on the right were written by Stephanie Ray. She wrote them as a young child. She is now 18 years old. Stephanie has been infected with the HIV virus since birth. The first poem (on the left) was brought to my attention by Jim Jenkins, founder of the Children With AIDS Project of America. The second poem appeared on the Camp Heartland Web Site.

  Ryan's Poem

    I BELIEVE IN ANGELS
   DON'T YOU SEE
   THEY ARE ALL AROUND US
   WATCHING  AFTER YOU
   AND TAKING CARE OF ME

   THEY ARE HELPING YOU TRAVEL
   VERY VERY FAR
   THE TWINKLE OF YOUR EYES
WILL BE SEEN IN THE STARS

   LOOK AT THE MOON
   THERE IS YOUR SMILE
   KIDS ALL OVER THE WORLD
WILL SEE IT FOR MILES AND
   MILES

   I BELIEVE IN ANGELS
   DON'T YOU SEE
   THEY ARE GODS HELPERS
   TAKING THE PAIN AWAY
   FROM YOU AND ME

    I LOVE YOU RYAN
